We are located at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI) in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Directed by Dr. Hassan Mir, MD, FRCPC, MHI, MPH a cardiologist at UOHI. The Mir Lab comprises a dedicated team of researchers focused on advancing knowledge in cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation.
Dr. Mir works alongside Evyanne Quirouette, the lab’s research manager, and a diverse group of researchers currently engaged in projects focused on hypertension, smoking and vaping cessation, and other areas of cardiovascular health. Here, you’ll find the latest updates and news from our lab.

Knowledge Mobilization
Clinical practice guidelines stress the importance of healthcare providers consistently identifying and treating all tobacco users with available medications and support. However, evidence alone is insufficient to change routine care practices. To ensure smoking cessation treatment becomes a standard part of care for all patients who use tobacco, changes to healthcare practices are necessary.
The Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation was developed to meet this need.
